God, the Universal Father, is universally regarded as the creator of all things. And it’s true; God personally created the isle of Paradise and the perfect central universe. From a human perspective, however, things are a bit different. The Father is the First Source and Center, and the First Source and Center is the Father, but as the Creator he passes on his name to his children. The universes of time and space are born out of the Paradise corps of Creator Sons. God did not create Nebadon; the universe in which we live is the work of his Son.
This entry is the initiation of a series of studies in which I explore the origin and ministry of the Creator Sons of Michael as described in The Urantia Book. I begin with the general—the Creator Sons as creatures of the grand universe, but the chief theme of this segment will be, not the person himself, but the ministry of the creator and ruler, Michael of Nebadon; the larger context will be given by material concerning the Paradise Sons of God.
The Eternal Son
The characterization of the Creator Sons should begin at the very top, with the Second Person of the Trinity, the Eternal Son. The Eternal Son is the offspring – person of the first complete, absolute, and infinite thought of the Universal Father. “The eternal Son is the eternal Word of God”. I still can’t understand it myself, so I’m not going to explain what it means.
What I noticed was that the Eternal Son could not directly contact humans. Just as the Universal Father does. But it does fuse with the creature in its own way— the word of the descending orders of divine sonship; even to the point where it speaks directly to man. The Universal Father makes himself known to us as the divine will (the prepersonal Thought Adjuster); The Eternal Son revealed himself when the personality of his Paradise Son, Michael of Nebadon, incarnated as the human entity – Jesus of Nazareth.
Plan
The Eternal Son is in everlasting liaison with the Father in the successful prosecution of the divine plan of progress: the universal plan for the creation, evolution, ascension, and perfection of will creatures. And, in divine faithfulness, the Son is the eternal equal of the Father.
7:4.1 (85.2)
As we learn from The Urantia Book, the Universal Father and the Eternal Son have planned, and in collaboration with, the Infinite Spirit are carrying out the work of leading all universe creation to eternal perfection.
We are part of this project. It was of us that they said: “Let us make mortal beings in our own image”; this is the mythical meaning of life. All the past and all the future, everything that has happened and everything that will happen, everything that is now is happening because of it.
God’s plan for perfection consists of three parallel undertakings:
- A plan of incremental achievement. The Plan of the Universal Father; it allows evolutionary beings to grow and ascend to become like him.
- The bestowal plan. The Task of the Eternal Son; in the persons of the co-ordinate Sons he reveals the Father to the universes.
- Mercy Ministry Plan. The ministry of the Infinite Spirit sets the universes in motion.
The three Persons of Deity associate, interpenetrate, in such complex and coherent ways as to function as One God. The Eternal Son, in carrying out the bestowal plan, sends forth his Sons to portray and actualize to creatures both the Father’s love and his mercy. Through them he spreads to all, the highest command of the Father: “Be you perfect, even as I am perfect”.
Michaels
When the fullness of absolute spiritual ideation in the Eternal Son encounters the fullness of absolute personality concept in the Universal Father, when such a creative union is finally and fully attained, when such absolute identity of spirit and such infinite oneness of personality concept occur, then, right then and there, without the loss of anything of personality or prerogative by either of the infinite Deities, there flashes into full-fledged being a new and original Creator Son, the only begotten Son of the perfect ideal and the powerful idea whose union produces this new creator personality of power and perfection.
21:1.1 (234.6)
Each Creator Son, Michael, is a unique reunion of the original concepts of two infinite, eternal, and perfect minds; the Universal Father and the Eternal Son. He is the Paradise Son of God. There will never be another Creator Son alike. Everyone is unique, both in their nature and personality. Each “[…] is the unqualified, finite, and final expression and personalization of the fullness of all phases, every feature, every possibility, every divine reality that could, in all eternity, be found, expressed, or evolved from those divine creative potentials which have been unified to bring into being this Michael Son”. If you don’t understand what it means this time either, don’t worry, you’re not alone.
And while all Michaels partake of the divine nature of the Universal Father and the creative power of the Eternal Son, though their own natures are equally derived from the attributes of both Paradise parents, they differ. Some seem more like God the Father, others like God the Son. In spirit nature, divine wisdom, and co-ordinate creator prerogatives, the Michaels are potentially equal. Michael of our universe more powerfully manifests qualities and attributes resembling the Eternal Son.
The Urantia Book does not give the exact number of Creator Sons. There are probably more than 700,000 of them in the grand universe.
In service in time and space, the Michaels are the designers, creators, builders, and administrators of the personal realms of the local universes (and they are closely associated with prayer). I bet they could get straight to work; after all, they are the Paradise Sons of God. They would do a great job. But before they leave Paradise, they observe the work of their elder brothers, those who are already changing the grand universe. All Michael Sons must pass through the Paradise observational and Havona training experience. The Urantia Book calls them “unique” and “long-lasting”.
First theory, then practice. As if God himself wanted to learn and set an example for us. The Creator Sons go forth to work well prepared.
The Paradise Sons of God of the order of Michael know the grand universe through and through. There is no (essential) experience of the essence of time and space in which one of them does not personally participate. They share all natures, from the highest – divine, to the lowest – human. Everything happens with their participation.
But to partake of this full range of experience, the Creator Sons must possess the true nature of their creatures; they therefore embody their divine personalities in bestowal universes. They do this always with the help of the Creative Daughters of the Infinite Spirit.
These primary Paradise Sons are personalized as Michaels. As they go forth from Paradise to found their universes, they are known as Creator Michaels. When settled in supreme authority, they are called Master Michaels. Sometimes we refer to the sovereign of your universe of Nebadon as Christ Michael. Always and forever do they reign after the “order of Michael,” that being the designation of the first Son of their order and nature.
21:0.3 (234.3)
Creative Daughters of the Infinite Spirit
I will certainly devote a separate article to the Divine Guardians in the future (I have already written a bit about them in the article comparing the text of The Urantia Book with the Ayahuasca manifesto), so I will not write extensively about them now. However, they should at least be mentioned on this occasion. Admittedly, I don’t quite get it yet; the ministry of the Creator Sons is forever and intimately connected with them.
When a Creator Son is personalized by the combined act of the Universal Father and the Eternal Son, concomitantly in the person of the Infinite Spirit there occurs what The Urantia Book designates the “supreme response of complement”. This reaction is marked by “[…] the natural modification of the personalizable capacities which are contained in the creative potential of the Conjoint Actor”. The birth of Michael signifies that within the person of the Infinite Spirit the potential of his future consort is born.
Later on, while the Creator Son receives these teachings, his future partner further evolves as an entity and becomes a “group consciousness of destiny”. It is supposed that such a group-oriented entity becomes aware of space. Mother Spirit then takes on the initial training of spiritual skills that will be useful in the future cooperation with her complementary Michael.
The moment the Eternal Son imparts creative power to Michael, the Master Spirit presiding over the superuniverse to which this Paradise Son will go utters the “identity prayer” in the presence of the Infinite Spirit. At this point the entity of the later Creative Spirit first appears as distinct from the person of the Infinite Spirit. This entity is not yet recognizable; he probably immediately becomes a part of the Master Spirit who spoke the prayer. The newly identified Creative Spirit remains with this Master Spirit until the Creator Son enters upon his cosmic ministry. Then does the Master Spirit commit to the keeping of the Creator Son his new consort the Spirit; at the same time, he commands the Spirit-wife to be eternally faithful and fully loyal to this Son. And then does the Universal Father personally acknowledge the eternal association of the Creator Son and the Creative Spirit; it also certifies the bestowal of the joint administrative powers bestowed upon them by the Master Spirit of the superuniverse concerned. The Creator Son and the Creative Spirit, thus blessed by the Father, go together on the adventure of universe creation.
Creators
The Universal Father, in the eternalization of the Original (Eternal) Son, bestowed upon him the power and privilege of uniting with him in the divine act of creating further Sons who would also receive the creative attributes. But the Eternal Son delegates creative prerogatives exclusively to the first personalization. This means that Michael, called into being, will not be able to give or share this power. Nevertheless, true to their name, the Creator Sons create, and subsequently rule, the local universes of time and space.
The departure of a Michael Son from Paradise releases his creative powers from the Paradise Sources and Trinity Centers. Michael of Paradise becomes the Creator; subject to certain restrictions:
- Since energy-matter is dominated by the Infinite Spirit, before any new forms of things can be created, a Creator Son must obtain the consent and co-operation of the Infinite Spirit;
- Since creature designs and types are under the control of the Eternal Son, a Creator Son must obtain his consent before he can create a new type of living being.
- Personality is evolved and bestowed exclusively by the Universal Father.
Each local universe is the work of a Paradise Creator Son of the order of Michael. There are 100 constellations, each containing 100 systems of inhabited worlds. In a single local universe will evolve 10 million inhabited planets like Earth. The Creator Son builds the ground and, in association with the Divine Minister, creates all the human races of these worlds.
When a Creator Son departs from Paradise to embark upon the adventure of universe making, to become the head—virtually the God— of the local universe of his own organization, then, for the first time, he finds himself in intimate contact with, and in many respects dependent upon, the Third Source and Center. The Infinite Spirit, though abiding with the Father and the Son at the center of all things, is destined to function as the actual and effective helper of each Creator Son. Therefore is each Creator Son accompanied by a Creative Daughter of the Infinite Spirit, that being who is destined to become the Divine Minister, the Mother Spirit of the new local universe.
21:2.2 (235.5)
The diversity of the Creator Sons influences the appearance of their creations. In each form and phase of the Michael-created (and creatureable) living existence, their universes are unique. Orders of beings may be (and are) similar in some respects, but there are no universes that are identical. In each, one half of his inherent traits are unified because they are derived from uniform Creative Spirits; the other half are different, for they are derived from the diverse Creator Sons (naturally not being characterized by beings exclusively of the Creative Spirit nor by those hailing from the central universe or other superuniverses).
The Creator Sons choose the sites of their creative activities; there they materialize the visible materials, plan living beings, and (in co-operation with the Infinite Spirit) create a host of spirit personalities. But the material creations are first designed by the Paradise Architects of the Master Universe. The Michałs are therefore builders and creators (and then administrators), but not designers.
Michael’s training and educational facilities are located in Havona. They also draw models for their creations from there. “By word” the Creator Sons guide the evolving universes until they attain the perfection of Paradise-Havona. The Urantia Book says that the Havona creatures may be the patterns of beings; not only the spiritual but also the mortal children of the Creators. It’s the center of everything. (If so, then in Paradise already now we are perfect). Havona and Paradise are, therefore, both the source of the creative power of the Michaels and the destiny of the creatures brought to life by that power.
When a Creator Son chooses and then takes a place in space, when he has subdued the materialization of this creation and stabilized it, he needs support. The Creator Son proclaims the intention of life creation, and the Master Spirits on Paradise perform the “solemnity of personalization”. The hitherto impersonal Spirit, the consort of the Creator Son, then becomes a real person. Henceforth this Mother Spirit of the local universe will forever be regarded as a person. This is the moment when Michael, the Creator, and Mother Spirit bond to give rise to a new life.
The Son initiates the creation of certain of the universe children, while the Spirit is solely responsible for bringing into existence the numerous orders of spirit personalities who minister and serve under the direction and guidance of this selfsame Mother Spirit. In the creation of other types of universe personalities, both the Son and the Spirit function together, and in no creative act does the one do aught without the counsel and approval of the other.
33:3.8 (369.3)
Rulers
A Creator Son, with the approval of the Paradise Trinity and with the confirmation of the Master Spirit, constructs his universe. But he is not yet its undivided ruler. Such a creative act is only a kind of cosmic lease. The right to reign is acquired by the Creator Son through personal growth and experience. Until then, he rules as vicegerent of the Universe Father.
Of course, the Universal Father dominates all creation; but in the administrations of the local universes he does not act personally, but through the Creator Sons. Rules of conduct and administrative relationships are established by a divine Son of a given local universe and it is he who exercises the highest authority in the area of ethical relations. This does not mean that the Universal Father cannot intervene and act in his own way, anywhere and with anyone. He simply chooses not to do this, he entrusts the local universes to his Sons.
As vicegerents, the Creator Sons may assume full sovereignty of their universes at any time. However, they do not do it. Had any of them undeservedly seized power prior to the bestowals, the Paradise personalities present in his creation would leave them, because they would break their oath. These are only hypothetical circumstances, because this has not been the case so far.
The sovereignty of a local universe Creator Son passes through 6 known (and probably 7) successive phases of experiential manifestation:
- The governor’s initial authority — a solitary, temporary power. Upon attaining the initial sovereignty of vicegerent of a projected universe, the Creator Michael takes an oath to the Trinity not to assume supreme sovereignty (see below at 4) until he has completed the seven bestowals in creature likeness.
- The conjoint sovereignty of the vicegerent — the joint sovereignty of the Paradise pair; subsequent to the personality attainment of the Universe Mother Spirit.
- Enlarged vicegerent authority — bestowal authority.
- Supreme sovereignty — the settled power subsequent to the completion of the seventh bestowal. Having attained supreme universe sovereignty, the triumphant Creator Son exalts the destined Mother Spirit to the community of sovereignty and recognizes his spouse – Spirit as his equal. In Nebadon supreme sovereignty has been manifest for about two thousand years—the bestowal on Earth being the seventh bestowal of our ruler Christ Michael.
- Augmented sovereignty — advancing correlation—consequent upon the settling in light and life of the majority of the creature-inhabited realms. Our local universe has not yet reached this stage.
- Trinitarian sovereignty — exercised as a result of the settling of an entire local universe in light and life.
- Unrevealed sovereignty — unknown relationships in a future universe age.
Even in the prebestowal ages (see 1-3) the Creator Son is well-nigh absolute in charge of his domain. If this power were not questioned, its limitations would be imperceptible. A possible rebellion emphasizes them. However, I have not found information in The Urantia Book as to what these restrictions look like in practice. If the sovereignty or administration of Michael is ever challenged, as by the Lucifer rebellion, the Creator Son is instructed to preserve, safeguard, defend, and, if necessary, reclaim his universe.
The Creator Son accepts limitations, in fact imposes them on himself; he can assume full power at any time. But now that he has completed his bestowals, Michael the Master, rules by experience. The Creator Sons literally live as the ones they created. Christ Michael was a man. What better way to get to know your subordinates than to see for yourself what their life is like? Upon the completion of the seventh bestowal Michael is finally established in his position. He officially becomes the Master Son, sovereign and supreme ruler.
The technique of obtaining supreme sovereignty over a local universe involves the following seven experiential steps:
21:3.16 (238.10)
1. Experientially to penetrate seven creature levels of being through the technique of incarnated bestowal in the very likeness of the creatures on the level concerned.
21:3.17(238.11)
2. To make an experiential consecration to each phase of the sevenfold will of Paradise Deity as it is personified in the Seven Master Spirits.
21:3.18 (238.12)
3. To traverse each of the seven experiences on the creature levels simultaneously with the execution of one of the seven consecrations to the will of Paradise Deity.
21:3.19 (239.1)
4. On each creature level, experientially to portray the acme of creature life to Paradise Deity and to all universe intelligences.
21:3.20 (239.2)
5. On each creature level, experientially to reveal one phase of the sevenfold will of Deity to the bestowal level and to all the universe.
21:3.21 (239.3)
6. Experientially to unify the sevenfold creature experience with the sevenfold experience of consecration to the revelation of the nature and will of Deity.
21:3.22 (239.4)
7. To achieve new and higher relationship with the Supreme Being. The repercussion of the totality of this Creator-creature experience augments the superuniverse reality of God the Supreme and the time-space sovereignty of the Almighty Supreme and factualizes the supreme local universe sovereignty of a Paradise Michael.
21:3.23 (239.5)
The bestowal Creator Sons are classified into seven divisions in accordance with the number of times they have bestowed themselves upon the creatures of their universes, from the initial experience and on through the five additional ranges of progressive bestowal to the seventh and final creature-Creator experience. The Creator Son, reaching for the highest power in the universe, gets to know the creatures in every detail. But at the same time, each of these “details” gives something back to the universe.
The Creator Sons are the model. They affect the spiritual progress of the beings they live with. Is there anyone left on Earth who has not heard of Jesus? They always lead and inspire; and they are really rarely treated the way we treated him on Earth. The order of Michael thus not only demonstrates their own directing ability but also reveals the nature and portrays the sevenfold position of the Paradise Deities (Father-Son-Spirit, Father-Son, Father-Spirit, Son-Spirit, Spirit, Son, Father). The seven bestowals embrace the appearance of Michael on the seven creature levels of existence, but they are inseparably associated with the revelation of the seven expressions of the will and nature of Deity.
Upon the completion of bestowal careers, the Creator Sons are reckoned with a separate order — the sevenfold Master Sons. Master Sons as persons are no different from the Creator Sons, but when they have passed through such unique experiences, they are recognized as a different order. The Master Son has within him all that he can derive from his divine origin and retains all that he could gain from the perfect experience of creature beings. However, it loses its creative power.
The moment of the attainment of supreme sovereignty, the ability to create new types of creatures is lost from the Michael Son, at least in the current era of the universe. And what will happen afterwards? We don’t know. Of course, this loss does not invalidate the task of leading an evolving life already created—the program for the advancement of the universe proceeds according to God’s plan. Supreme authority is the constant supervision, support, and management of that which has been previously planned and created; and what will be created by those who have already been planned and created. Evolution does its job. An almost infinite number of diverse beings can be formed. But henceforth no wholly new type of intelligent creature will be derived directly from the Master Son. Losing this power may seem like a loss to him. This is not the case. It’s a new beginning and first step toward a stable administration of each local universe. This universe already has everything to become perfect.
It is also the beginning of the end of “epochal uncertainty and relative disorientation”. Now that which cannot be spiritualized will eventually be disorganized; that which cannot sometime be co-ordinated with cosmic reality will be destroyed. What mercy fails to rehabilitate, justice will eventually annihilate. (Michael does not personally participate in the judicial activities of his universe. Creators never judge creatures created by Them).
The Master Sons rule without restraint and in accordance with their own ideas. They are free to alter the order of spiritual adjudication and the evolutionary adjustments of the inhabited planets or to implement their own plans for special planetary needs. Especially where they resided as created beings. They seem to be in perfect communication with these worlds (including those bestowed by the Magisterial Sons), and they maintain contact through their own spirit presence; a force that lures seekers of truth to the One who is the personification of this truth in the universe. Within the realms each Creator Son possesses such drawing power. It is the Spirit of Truth. Through it they become conscious of the activities and emotions of all the descending Sons of God who serve in their universes, without exception. This is the divine reflection of the spiritual drawing power of the Eternal Son which enables him to reach all of his Paradise Sons. The Master Sons thus maintain unbroken communication with the Eternal Son at the center of all things, but they also exercise full control over the other Sons of God functioning in their creations.
“All power in heaven and on earth has been given him”. The Master-Michael’s sovereignty is limitless, for it is derived from experiential association with the Paradise Trinity; it is undeniable, because it derives from the actual experience of the being who is subject to this authority. The nature of this sovereignty is supreme because it embraces the sevenfold viewpoint of Paradise Deity; He embodies the sevenfold attitude of time-space creatures and perfectly synthesizes the Paradise attitude and creature viewpoint.
Spouses
The Master Son is the unreserved ruler of the universe of his creation, but in reality the Universe Spirit conjoins him. While the Spirit recognizes the Son as monarch and sovereign, the Son always accords the Spirit co-ordinate position and equal authority in all the affairs of their realm. The Son functions as a father in his local universe; the spirit, for our understanding, plays the role of a mother. Michael of Nebadon and his Spirit associate are thus our creative parents.
In the event of rebellion only the Son and his associated Sons can act as deliverers. The spirit cannot oppose rebellion or defend authority; but she always supports the Son. Only the Son can recover his creation, but none can hope to win without the co-operation of the Divine Minister and her corps of spiritual helpers.
Interestingly, throughout his universe the Creator Son acts instantaneously—he can function “comparatively independent of time” (whatever that means); but his ministry is dependent on the limitations of space. The Divine Minister is independent of space — she is everywhere; but in her ministry she is limited by the element of time. By co-operation with the Mother Spirit the Creator Son can offset and circumvent the limitations of space; together, within the confines of their local universe, they are practically independent of both time and space.
Michael of Nebadon
Our Creator Son is not the Eternal Son, the existential Paradise associate of the Universal Father and the Infinite Spirit. Michael of Nebadon is not a member of the Paradise Trinity. Nevertheless our Master Son possesses in his realm all of the divine attributes and powers that the Eternal Son himself would manifest were he actually to be present on Salvington and functioning in Nebadon. Michael possesses even additional power and authority, for he not only personifies the Eternal Son but also fully represents and actually embodies the personality presence of the Universal Father to and in this local universe. He even represents the Father-Son. These relationships constitute a Creator Son the most powerful, versatile, and influential of all divine beings who are capable of direct administration of evolutionary universes and of personality contact with immature creature beings.
33:1.2 (366.3)
Christ Michael is not a person of the Trinity. He is the personalization of the Universal Father and the co-ordinate of the Eternal Son in divinity. He is just as powerful, efficient, and beneficent as the Father and the Son were to be personally present in our local universe; he is also the creative collaborator of the Infinite Spirit. To our universe and to all its inhabited planets the Sovereign Son is actually God. He embodies all that we, evolving mortals can comprehend on the subject.
There are many Michaels in the grand universe, but there is only one Creator Son in Nebadon of the primary Paradise order of the Paradise Sons of God—Michael, the father and sovereign of our universe. Our Creator Son is the personification of 611 121 original concept of infinite identity of simultaneous origin in the Universal Father and the Eternal Son; he is the first-born Son, embodying 611 121 universal concept of divinity and infinity.
Michael of Nebadon is sometimes called Christ Michael, from the name bestowed upon him on his last bestowal. It was upon this bestowal that he received supreme sovereignty in Nebadon. And then the Divine Minister of Nebadon publicly affirmed her submission to him, pledging herself to be faithful and obedient. He recognized his eternal dependence on his companion Spirit, making her co-ruler of their universe. He demanded from all the beings they had created together a pledge of loyalty to the Devine Minister, the same as they have towards him. The final “Equality Proclamation” was issued and distributed. Michael of Nebadon proclaimed the fact of the Spirit’s equality with him in all personality traits and attributes of divine character.
It is not surprising that the headquarters of Michael of Nebadon is at the universe capital, Salvington. His main abode is in a threefold mansion of light; for he lived the life of all three phases of intelligent creature existence: spiritual, morontial, and material. The Master spends much time visiting the constellation and system headquarters; even individual planets. He sometimes holds conferences with the Ancients of Days on Uversa. When he is away from Salvington, he is replaced by Gabriel, then acting as regent of Nebadon.
It required almost one billion years of Urantia time to complete the bestowal career of Michael and to effect the final establishment of his supreme authority in the universe of his own creation. Michael was born a creator, educated an administrator, trained an executive, but he was required to earn his sovereignty by experience. And thus has your little world become known throughout all Nebadon as the arena wherein Michael completed the experience which is required of every Paradise Creator Son before he is given unlimited control and direction of the universe of his own making. As you ascend the local universe, you will learn more about the ideals of the personalities concerned in Michael’s previous bestowals.
119:8.2 (1318.1)
Christ Michael
We get lost in religious concepts. The Urantia Book straightens out and organizes not only Christian traditions, but religious traditions in general, including those concerning Jesus and the Trinity. The Catholic vision of the Trinity is incoherent and therefore incomprehensible, even by those who preach it. Papers can also be understood in many ways. That’s how it is in this religion. But it is wrong when we err deceived by egoism, whether personal, local, or even cosmic.
And when we begin talking about The Urantia Book, we can be sure that the resistance to religious progress will be fierce. And no matter how much the defenders of Jesus rumble about sin and sacrilege, let us remember that the truth about God walking among men always remains unchanged.
PS Classification
According to The Urantia Book “Paradise classification of living beings,” the Michaels Creator Sons are beings of “dual origin,” that is, they are derived from the two Paradise Deities. They also belong to the “descending” order, so in the “personality register of Uversa” they appear among the “descending Sons of God”. In the content of the papers they are also included in the group of Supreme Creator Personalities.
PPS Who Is Like God
The Urantia Books would have been (or has already been?) considered heresies by the Catholic Church. In the Christian tradition, Michael has little in common with the one presented in the papers, even more so with Jesus. The Hebrew name Mika’el means “Who is like God” and he himself became famous for his action against Lucifer. The accompanying cry “Who is like God!” is probably the genesis of his name. Who is like God? Michael! After all, he is God, so who – if not him?
The Bible speaks of Michael as one of the most powerful Archangels. In the Old Testament book of Daniel, he is a prince (Dan 10:21b) and the guardian of the chosen people (Dan 12:1). In the apocryphal books, he appears as a prince of the Angels, but also as a person “first after God“, which is closer to the teachings of The Urantia Book. In early Christian writing, God entrusts this Archangel with tasks that require “exceptional strength”. Michael also intercedes for people before God himself; is a companion of man in the moment of the death and assists him on his way to eternity. He is considered to be an angel of justice and judgment, of grace and mercy.
In the New Testament, in the Apostle John writing, Michael is the leader of the angelic hosts in the fight against the Dragon-Satan (Rev 12:7); according to Jude, Michael protected Moses’ body from the devil (Jude 9).
Through the lens of The Urantia Book, some of the inception is introduced by those traditions in which Michael the Archangel was the guardian angel of Jesus during his sojourn on Earth.
Surprisingly, Jehovah’s Witnesses are probably the closest to what the Messages say in this matter. Their interpretation of the Bible shows that “Michael is a name applied to Jesus Christ before he came to earth and when he departed from here”. Even a blind hen…
Overinterpretations
While completing the material for this post, I also found more frivolous approaches to Michael.
In Rome, Castel Sant’Angelo was named in his honor. There would be nothing extraordinary about it if it were not for the accompanying circumstances.
At the end of the VI century, the Archangel Michael is said to have appeared to Pope Gregory the Great during a procession. It was a ceremony aimed at appeasing the angry God, who was to send an epidemic of plague on people. It was then that the pope noticed Michael sheathing his sword, which was to symbolize the extinguishing of God’s wrath. Leaving aside the credibility of such personal revelations, all the legends about an angry God and priests who know how to appease him with their ministry are insolent.
It is known that there is only one organization on Earth that properly represents God. That is why the Catholic Church will always be in Satan’s crosshairs. Gregory the Great was not the only pope who met Michael the Archangel.
On October 13, 1884, the Holy Father Leo XIII had an ecstatic vision after celebrating Mass in a private chapel. He stood still with his face changed. After some time, he hurriedly, without taking off his vestments, went to his private office and composed a prayer to St. Michael the Archangel: “St. Michael the Archangel! Help us in the battle, and against the wickedness and snares of the evil one, be our defense. May God deign to subdue him, we humbly ask for it, and You, Commander of the heavenly hosts, cast Satan and other evil spirits who roam this world to the destruction of human souls, by the power of God. Amen”. As he later recounted, in a vision he heard a conversation between Satan and the Lord Jesus. It concerned Satan’s desire to destroy the Church.
Try to do it – said Jesus. – I need time for this. I choose the 20th century, I need 70 or maybe 100 years to do it. Jesus agreed to this trial to last a hundred years and added: – I will give my believers strength and power to endure.
Pope Leo XIII ordered this prayer to be recited throughout the Church after each Low Mass, and granted an indulgence to all who recite it.
Church’s Michael is also a promoter of tourist attractions.
The cult of St. Michael the Archangel dates back to the beginning of the end of the fifth century and is reflected in all regions of Europe. The apparitions of Archangel Michael are known from Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and Poland. The oldest is the one from Mount Gargano in Italy, where the most famous Sanctuary of St. Michael is located. A wealthy farmer from Siponto reported missing most beautiful bull of his herd. After a long search, the owner found the animal standing on the top of the mountain at the entrance to the grotto. In his furious rage, he drew his bow and shot an arrow to slay the animal that had caused so much trouble. The arrow, instead of striking the bull in an inexplicable way, turned around and wounded the shooter. The shocked owner went to the bishop to tell him about this unusual event. The bishop ordered three days of prayers and penance to get to know God’s will. When the third day was drawing to a close, St. Michael the Archangel appeared to the bishop and announced that he had chosen Mount Gargano and the grotto in it as a place consecrated to him, where human sins would be forgiven and prayers offered to God would be answered. The grotto is called the Heavenly Basilica because it was the only temple in the world that was consecrated by an angel.
Every deep look, (regardless of the topic being analyzed) reassures me that the Catholic Church has no shame; especially when it tries to make its attitudes credible. Michael was also indicated as the first exorcist (after all, he was the first to defeat Satan). This justifies his priests who perform witchcraft over sick people, because they are the ones who, just like the Archangel Michael, fight against the greatest evil.
